Moscow, Latah County, Idaho: Idaho Tourism Awards Announced Oct. 28: Former Tourism Director Wilgus Receives Governor's Lifetime Achievement Award, Lolo Trail Restoration Wins First Travel With Care Award
Visit Idaho announced the 2026 Idaho tourism awards on October 28: former state tourism director Carl Wilgus received the Governor's Lifetime Achievement Award in Recreation and Tourism, and the volunteer-led restoration of the historic Lolo Trail received the first 'Travel With Care Champion' award. Wilgus directed Idaho tourism from 1987 to 2007 and founded the IDAHOST hospitality training program, which has trained more than 100,000 people. The Lewis & Clark Trail Alliance won for organizing more than 40 volunteers who contributed over 700 hours restoring the Lolo Trail; it is the first time the award has been presented. The awards also recognized marketing campaigns by three destination marketing organizations: the Southwest Idaho Travel Association and the Twin Falls Area Chamber of Commerce received campaign awards, and Visit Boise received the Judges' Choice Award. The organizers said the awards together highlight how visitor promotion, hospitality training and conservation work support Idaho's tourism industry.
