In Brooklyn, New York City, New York, there has been a decisive development in the federal sports-betting case against former NBA player Malik Beasley: his attorney, Steve Haney, confirmed to multiple outlets on October 27 that Beasley has agreed to plead guilty and is scheduled to formally change his plea on December 9 in federal court in Brooklyn. He is one of six defendants: the attorney for Ernesto Plascencia has confirmed he will also plead guilty, William Brown pleaded guilty earlier this month, and bettor Robert Gorodetsky is slated to enter his plea on November 20, while former NBA player Ed Davis and agent Paolo Zamorano have pleaded not guilty.
Beasley, 29, was drafted 19th overall by the Denver Nuggets in 2016 and played nine NBA seasons for the Nuggets, Minnesota Timberwolves, Utah Jazz, Los Angeles Lakers, Bucks and Detroit Pistons, earning just under $60 million in his career. He last played in the NBA in the 2024-25 season, averaging 16.3 points per game for Detroit and finishing second in Sixth Man of the Year voting; a planned three-year, $42 million return to the Pistons stalled once the federal investigation became public, and he did not play in the league last season.
