American Savings Bank teammates contribute $271,000 to five Hawaii nonprofits through the 2026 Kahiau Giving Campaign
American Savings Bank (ASB) in Hawaii announced that its teammates have contributed a combined $271,000 to five local nonprofits through the annual Kahiau Giving Campaign, with 94% of teammates participating this year. ASB celebrated its 2026 Kahiau partners at a reception at its Campus on Tuesday, October 27.
The five beneficiaries, selected by ASB's teammate-led Community Council, work on affordable housing and financial education: Catholic Charities Hawaiʻi received $52,000 for affordable housing and family stability initiatives; Child & Family Service received $75,000 for financial education and access to stable, safe housing; Hawaiian Community Assets received $43,000 for housing counseling, financial education and pathways to affordable homeownership; Kupu received $61,000 for financial education for program participants statewide; and Partners in Development Foundation received $40,000 for financial education through its Keiki Asset Accounts program and family empowerment programs. Teammates contributed $170,263, with a match from the ASB Charitable Foundation bringing the total to $271,000.
In Hawaiian, Kahiau means to give from the heart without expecting anything in return. Since the program began in 2011, the campaign has contributed more than $4.3 million to local nonprofits. This year's newest partner, Hawaiian Community Assets, has over the years received more than $1 million in grants from ASB, with support from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines' Member Impact Fund, for affordable housing and financial education; ASB also supported the opening of HCA's Maui office and its Ua Hale Aʻela program, which helps local families navigate the path to homeownership.
Ann Teranishi, president and CEO of American Savings Bank, said the campaign reflects teammates' generosity and helps local families get one step closer to homeownership and students pursue higher education. Chelsie Evans Enos, CEO of Hawaiian Community Assets, said access to affordable housing remains one of the most pressing challenges facing Hawaii's families and that the Kahiau program helps organizations continue working toward housing stability.
