White House Cites DOJ Victimization Survey: Non-Fatal Violent Crime Fell 25% in 2025, the Largest One-Year Drop in the Survey's History
Washington — The White House said on October 27, citing the Justice Department's National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS), that non-fatal violent crime in the United States fell 25% in 2025 compared with 2024, the largest one-year reduction in the survey's history. The White House said the figures show President Donald Trump delivering on his promise to restore law and order.
By category, aggravated assault fell 31%, motor vehicle theft 30%, robberies 27%, burglary and trespassing 25%, and property crime 19%. The NCVS, conducted annually by the Bureau of Justice Statistics through household interviews, measures crimes actually experienced by residents, including offenses never reported to police; its methodology differs from the FBI's report-based statistics, and the two series are often read together.
The White House attributed the decline to the administration's enforcement actions, including securing the border, deporting criminal illegal aliens, supporting law enforcement officers and cracking down on drug trafficking, and criticized policies such as cashless bail backed by some Democrats. Those attributions and judgments are the White House's; the survey itself reports victimization data and draws no conclusions about causes.
"These dramatic declines demonstrate the impact of President Trump's commitment to cracking down on crime, holding criminals accountable, and making American communities safer," the White House said.
