Tiverton, Rhode Island, Meeting on the Evening of October 27 Advances Plan to Connect Six Homes with PFAS-Contaminated Wells to Public Water
The town of Tiverton, in Newport County, Rhode Island, held a residents' meeting on the evening of October 27 to report progress on connecting homes with PFAS-contaminated wells to the public water supply; the town is moving forward with providing public water to six affected households.
The state Department of Environmental Management said nearly 200 wells in the area have been tested, of which 110 were found to be contaminated. Residents at the meeting continued to press officials for a clearer account of the work under way. Tiverton's connection plan is a direct response for households with contaminated wells, aimed at getting them safe drinking water as soon as possible and ending their reliance on polluted well water.
The meeting reviewed the current progress, but some residents said the information was still insufficient and asked for the construction timeline and follow-up arrangements.
PFAS are a class of chemicals that resist breakdown, and their long-term presence in water can pose health risks, which is why the water supply for the affected households has drawn close attention. The town said it will keep coordinating with the state environmental agency to advance the connection work and will keep residents informed so the affected families' drinking water safety is protected.
