LA Metro Board Programs Over $150 Million in Measure M and R Funds for County Transportation Projects

The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) announced on October 26 that its Board of Directors has approved nearly $119 million in Measure M and Measure R programming through the agency's annual subregional funding process, advancing projects in the North County and South Bay subregions. Separately, the Board approved up to $35 million in additional Measure M funding for the Shoreline Drive Realignment Project in Long Beach, bringing the combined total to more than $150 million.

'Measures R and M continue to deliver on voters' vision by providing communities throughout Los Angeles County with targeted investments that improve safety, connectivity, and mobility,' said Metro Board Chair and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass. Metro CEO Stephanie Wiggins said the funding demonstrates Metro's ongoing commitment to supporting local partners and delivering tangible transportation benefits across the county. The Long Beach addition will also help the city preserve a $30 million federal Reconnecting Communities Pilot Program award for the project.

In the North County subregion, the Board approved an additional $5.18 million in Measure M funding for its Active Transportation Program, supporting two new projects and schedule adjustments for two existing ones, including $4.91 million for the Equitable Complete Streets for Challenger Way Corridor project in Lancaster, which adds wider protected bikeways, a landscaped raised median, street lighting and pavement rehabilitation, and $270,000 for a Bicycle and Pedestrian Trail Safety Detection project in Santa Clarita. The South Bay received approximately $114.7 million for 23 projects across communities including Hawthorne, Inglewood, Los Angeles, Lomita, Torrance and Redondo Beach, including the Hawthorne Mobility Hub parking structure, Aviation Boulevard improvements in Inglewood, San Pedro pedestrian upgrades, the Avalon Promenade and Gateway pedestrian and bicycle bridge with about 12 acres of public open space, the Lomita Boulevard Grade Separation, and school safety and accessibility work around three Torrance elementary schools. The South Bay action also includes $4 million in Measure R funding for the Victoria Transit Center in Carson.

Metro said the annual actions advance locally identified priorities including safer streets and crossings, bicycle and pedestrian improvements, transit access, traffic signal upgrades, mobility hubs and roadway improvements. Metro is the lead planner, funder, builder and operator of public transportation in Los Angeles County, carrying nearly 1 million boardings daily; its latest customer survey, fielded in July 2026, showed satisfaction rising to 87%.
