CFTC and Kansas State University Co-Host 2026 Agricultural Futures Conference AgCon in Overland Park
The Commodity Futures Trading Commission said in an Oct. 27 release in Washington that the CFTC and the Risk Management Center at Kansas State University co-hosted the 2026 Agricultural Commodity Futures Conference (AgCon) in Overland Park, Kansas, last week. The two-day conference brought together industry leaders, policymakers and market participants to discuss issues facing the agricultural economy, developments in derivatives markets and risk management tools used by farmers, ranchers and agribusinesses.
Panels covered the relationship between cash and derivatives markets, hedging tools, agricultural credit, rising production costs, commodity prices and supply chain disruptions. Participants also discussed perpetual futures, 24/7 trading, tokenized collateral, agricultural prediction markets, event contracts and the implications of emerging technologies for market integrity.
CFTC Chairman Michael S. Selig said he had met this year with farmers, ranchers, agribusinesses and energy producers in Iowa, Texas, Nebraska, South Carolina and Florida. U.S. Department of Agriculture Deputy Secretary Stephen Vaden and U.S. Senator Roger Marshall of Kansas delivered keynote addresses, and White House Council of Economic Advisers member Aaron Hedlund attended. Selig also took part in a fireside chat with Futures Industry Association President and CEO Walt Lukken on the commission's priorities and the regulatory landscape, and delivered closing remarks.
AgCon, jointly hosted by the CFTC and the K-State Risk Management Center since 2018, held its fourth edition at the Marriott Overland Park Hotel.
