Alexander Brothers Each Sentenced to 30 Years in Sex Trafficking Case: Judge Calls Their Conduct "Monstrous" as 11 Accusers Speak
A federal judge in Manhattan, New York City, New York, sentenced the three Alexander brothers on October 27 to 30 years in prison each in their sex trafficking case, with 10 years of supervised release to follow: former luxury real estate brokers Oren Alexander and Tal Alexander, and their brother Alon Alexander, who was not a broker. A jury convicted the three in March after a six-week trial on sex trafficking and other charges. According to Bloomberg Law and the Associated Press, U.S. District Judge Valerie Caproni told the brothers at sentencing: "Your conduct was monstrous."
Prosecutors said the brothers used their wealth, glamorous lifestyles and access to luxury real estate circles to lure, drug and rape dozens of women. At the sentencing hearing, 11 accusers spoke in court about what they endured; some choked up as they described how the assaults changed their lives. None of the brothers testified at trial, but each addressed the court before sentencing, with Oren Alexander speaking first and saying he was not there to discount what the women had said.
Prosecutors had asked for life sentences and the defense for the 15-year statutory minimum; the judge imposed 30 years for each brother. Twins Oren and Alon are 39 and Tal is 40. Oren and Tal were once among the nation's top luxury real estate brokers.
The case has drawn national attention for the methods prosecutors described — using mansions, parties and celebrity social circles to approach victims — and for the debate it prompted about power imbalances in high-end real estate and social networks. No public information on an appeal was available as of publication.
