Poland Selected to Host Europe's PAC-3 Missile Maintenance Facility: $253 Million Investment, the Only Such Center Outside the U.S.
The Department of War announced on October 27 that the U.S. Government, in coordination with Lockheed Martin and European Allies, has selected Poland to host a European PAC-3 Missile Maintenance Facility (MMF) providing in-region repair for Europe's PAC-3 missile force; Poland's deputy defense minister put the investment at about 1 billion zlotys (roughly $253 million) and said it will be the only facility of its kind outside the United States.
Under Secretary of War for Acquisition and Sustainment Michael P. Duffey announced the decision on the margins of the NATO Conference of National Armaments Directors. As a regional sustainment facility, the center will let European allies repair PAC-3 missiles in Europe instead of shipping them back to the United States, shortening turnaround times, securing supply lines and adding wartime surge capacity that strengthens deterrence and readiness on NATO's Eastern Flank. Supply-chain integration for the facility is led by Germany, the Netherlands and Sweden.
Polish Deputy Defence Minister Magdalena Sobkowiak-Czarnecka said four countries — Poland, Germany, the Netherlands and Norway — competed to host the facility, and that it should become operational in a dozen or so months. The Pentagon said the move advances commitments from the July 2026 Ankara Summit on "NATO 3.0," expanding allied in-region sustainment and the transatlantic defense industrial base. The PAC-3 is the latest interceptor for the Patriot air and missile defense system, using hit-to-kill technology against tactical ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and aircraft.
