Honolulu, City and County of Honolulu, Hawaii — A flood watch took effect at 6 a.m. on October 27 for Honolulu and all of Hawaii's main islands. The National Weather Service office in Honolulu issued the watch at 2:54 a.m. on October 27, in effect through 5 a.m. on October 29, covering all of the state's main islands, with Oahu and Maui County facing the greatest risk.
Forecasters said a trough approaching from the southwest is bringing abundant tropical moisture to Hawaii, with heavy rain expected from the night of October 27 through the night of October 28. Local media, citing the forecast, reported total rainfall of 2 to 8 inches from October 27 to 29, with higher amounts at elevation, and the watch may be extended depending on how the weather develops.
Possible impacts include overflowing streams and drainage channels, road closures in low-lying urban areas, property damage and landslides on steep terrain. Residents and visitors are advised to monitor the latest forecasts, avoid driving through flooded roadways during the rain, stay away from streams and drainage channels while floodwaters are rising, and check in advance whether their lodging and travel routes are in low-lying, flood-prone areas.
