Philadelphia Chinese Voters' Guide to the November 3 Ballot: Asian Officials and Chinese-Language Voting Assistance

Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania — A nonpartisan voter guide for Asian voters in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania has compiled the Asian officials appearing in connection with the November 3 ballot and Chinese-language voting assistance resources, as a reference for Philadelphia's Chinese voters.

The guide notes that Pennsylvania State Senator Patty Kim (District 15, the Harrisburg area) serves a term running through 2028 and is therefore not on this year's ballot. Pennsylvania voters will nonetheless elect U.S. representatives, the governor and lieutenant governor, all 203 state representatives and half of the state senators this year — offices that affect school funding, local services and public safety issues of concern to the Chinese community.

The guide also notes that Philadelphia provides Chinese-language voting materials and assistance, and the Pennsylvania Department of State publishes Chinese-language voter pages. Under federal law, a voter who needs help may bring an assistor into the voting booth, but the assistor may not be the voter's employer or union representative.

Citing U.S. Census Bureau Current Population Survey data from the 2024 election, the guide says 57.1% of Asian voting-age citizens reported voting and 65.3% reported being registered, both below the overall citizen rates of 65.3% voting and 73.6% registration, with language barriers, work schedules, recent naturalization and unfamiliarity with the ballot among the reasons.

The guide stresses that the list does not endorse any candidate, and voters should rely on official information from state or county election offices before voting.
