Canfor's $96 Million Investment in El Dorado's Iron Mountain Mill to More Than Double Output to 220 Million Board Feet
El Dorado, Union County, Arkansas — Canfor Southern Pine, a unit of Canadian forest products company Canfor, announced on October 27 that it will invest about $96 million in a phased modernization and logistics expansion of its Iron Mountain facility in El Dorado, strengthening its Arkansas regional hub. The project has two phases: the first, a planer upgrade, was completed in the second quarter of 2025; the second will modernize and expand the Iron Mountain sawmill and log yard and is expected to finish in the fourth quarter of 2026. A transload facility built at Iron Mountain earlier this year can transfer lumber between trucks and rail cars and serves both Iron Mountain and the nearby Urbana sawmill. When complete, the projects will more than double Iron Mountain's annual net production to about 220 million board feet and create about 75 additional jobs at the facility and in logistics, while improving efficiency and regional integration and expanding supply for North American customers.
