University of Pittsburgh Names Millstone Director of Its Nanoscience and Engineering Institute: Chemistry Professor to Lead the Institute Founded in 2002
In Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, the University of Pittsburgh announced that Jill E. Millstone has been named director of the Gertrude E. and John M. Petersen Institute of NanoScience and Engineering.
Millstone is the Wegemer Professor in the university's Department of Chemistry and holds a joint appointment in chemical engineering at the Swanson School of Engineering; her research focuses on nanomaterials chemistry. The institute was founded in 2002, and a 2006 Petersen family gift built its nanofabrication and characterization facility, making it the university's hub for interdisciplinary nanoscience.
Adam Leibovich, dean of the Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences, welcomed the appointment, saying Millstone's research record and leadership experience will carry the institute into its next phase.
