Berkeley Architecture's Free Fall Lecture Series Continues Nov. 18: Casper Mork-Ulnes on 'The Craft of Place'
The Department of Architecture at the University of California, Berkeley — in the city of Berkeley, Alameda County, California — is presenting its Fall 2026 Lecture Series on Wednesday evenings this semester. All lectures take place at 6 p.m. in 112 Bauer Wurster Hall on the UC Berkeley campus and are free and open to the public, with no tickets or registration required. The featured upcoming session is on Wednesday, November 18, 2026: San Francisco- and Oslo-based architect Casper Mork-Ulnes, principal of Mork-Ulnes Architects and this year's Friedman Visiting Professor at Berkeley, will speak on "The Craft of Place."
Mork-Ulnes Architects, with offices in San Francisco and Oslo, is known for buildings that combine Scandinavian craft traditions with California materials and landscapes; the firm's work ranges from rural cabins and houses to cultural buildings, and it received the Architectural League of New York's Emerging Voices award in 2020, given each year to practices with a distinctive design voice. In "The Craft of Place," Mork-Ulnes will discuss how buildings take shape from the specific conditions of a site — its climate, materials, and building culture — rather than from a style applied from outside.
Two other sessions remain before November 18 in the same free series: on Wednesday, October 28, Laura Sánchez Carrasco and Íñigo Cobeta of ETSAM, Madrid, speak on "What Space Builds," and on Wednesday, November 4, Creedon Fellow Julie Riley speaks on "Surface Conditions." All sessions begin at 6 p.m. in 112 Bauer Wurster Hall and are open to anyone interested in architecture and design.
