1960年起他开始在电视上演出,出演过《法庭日》(A Day in Court)、《综合医院》(General Hospital)与《希区柯克一小时》(The Alfred Hitchcock Hour)等剧集。

Walter Koenig, Star Trek's Chekov, Dies at 90: Actor Passed Away October 25 at His Los Angeles Home
Walter Koenig, the American actor who played navigator Pavel Chekov in the classic science-fiction series "Star Trek," died on October 25 at his home in the North Hollywood neighborhood of Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California, at the age of 90. His representative Zachary McGinnis confirmed on October 26 that Koenig died of old age, surrounded by his daughter and niece; Reuters and the Associated Press both reported the news on October 26.
"Today we mourn the passing of Walter Koenig, whose talent, warmth, and unforgettable performances left a lasting mark on generations of fans around the world," McGinnis said in a statement. The statement added that Koenig understood what "Star Trek" meant to people and, through countless convention appearances, shared his kindness, wit and appreciation with fans.
George Takei, who played Sulu alongside Koenig in the original series, posted a tribute on social media on October 26, writing: "My heart is heavy." Takei described Koenig as a longtime friend. Funeral services were pending.
Koenig was born on September 14, 1936, in Chicago and raised in New York City. He first attended Grinnell College in Iowa as a pre-medical student, then transferred to the University of California, Los Angeles, where he earned a bachelor's degree in psychology. Encouraged by a professor to pursue acting, he studied at New York's Neighborhood Playhouse, where his classmates included James Caan. He began appearing on television in 1960, with roles in series including "A Day in Court," "General Hospital" and "The Alfred Hitchcock Hour."
In 1967, Koenig joined the second season of the original "Star Trek" series as Ensign Pavel Chekov, the Russian navigator known for pronouncing the letter "v" as "w." He appeared in 36 episodes of the original series and went on to play Chekov in seven "Star Trek" feature films between 1979 and 1994. Series creator Gene Roddenberry added a Russian officer to the crew of the starship Enterprise at the height of the Cold War, working harmoniously alongside a racially and culturally diverse crew. Koenig once told a BBC interviewer that this was tacitly stating that peoples of all races, creeds and nationalities could not only co-exist but care for each other deeply, heralding a very optimistic future.
After the original series was cancelled by NBC in 1969, Koenig was typecast and, as he told the St. Petersburg Times in 1998, spent much of the 1970s without work, which he blamed on typecasting. In the 1990s he landed a recurring role as the villainous Psi Cop Alfred Bester in the science-fiction series "Babylon 5." He also wrote episodes of series including "Land of the Lost," and worked as a director, acting teacher and author. Earlier this year, he won the platinum award for best actor at the 2026 Independent Shorts Awards for his most recent role, in the short film "Mr. Fleischmann."
Koenig married Judy Levitt in 1965; she died in December 2022. Their son, actor Andrew Koenig, died in 2010. Koenig is survived by his daughter, actress Danielle Koenig. His death leaves William Shatner, who played Captain Kirk, and George Takei as the only surviving core cast members of the original "Star Trek" series.
