San Diego County Sues 3D-Printing Supplier Polymaker Over Ghost-Gun Marketing: Penalties Up to $2,500 Per Violation Per Day

In San Diego, San Diego County, California, County Counsel Damon Brown, on behalf of the People of California, has sued 3D-printing filament maker Polymaker in San Diego Superior Court, accusing it of marketing its products to ghost-gun makers. The complaint was filed on October 5; the county's newly created consumer fairness unit also sued AppLovin and Roblox.

The suit says Polymaker, headquartered in Shanghai with U.S. operations in Houston, partnered with gun-printing influencer Sean Aranda, known as the "3D Print General," who later became the company's head of customer experience. The county acknowledges the filament itself is legal, but says the marketing targeted and enabled makers of untraceable ghost guns.

The county seeks an injunction, disgorgement of profits, and civil penalties of up to $2,500 per violation per day.
