Early Voting Begins in Washington, D.C., on October 26; Voters to Pick a New Mayor and a New Congressional Delegate

Washington, District of Columbia — Early voting in Washington, D.C., officially began on October 26, with voters set to choose a new mayor and a new congressional delegate. Fox 5 reported the same day that 25 vote centers will be open daily through November 1, and on Election Day, November 3, 75 vote centers will be open across the city; voters may cast ballots at any designated center and may register on site with proof of residency.

This is the first time in 12 years that the District will elect a new mayor. Incumbent Mayor Muriel Bowser decided not to seek re-election; Democratic primary winner Janeese Lewis George will face independent candidate Rhonda Hamilton and Statehood Green Party candidate Robert Gross. Voters will also choose a new congressional delegate for the first time in 35 years, after longtime Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton retired.

In the delegate race, Democratic primary winner Robert White faces Republican candidate Dennis Rosado and Statehood Green Party candidate Kymon Freeman. Voters will also decide several D.C. Council seats, the Council chair, the attorney general and shadow congressional delegate races. About three-quarters of the District's registered voters are Democrats, making the primary results closely watched.
