Ohio State Women's Soccer Beats Illinois 3-0 on October 25 to Claim Outright Big Ten Regular-Season Title
Ohio State's women's soccer team defeated the University of Illinois 3-0 on the afternoon of October 25 at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus to claim the outright Big Ten regular-season championship, a school record. In the 19th minute, Amanda Schlueter took a pass from Mikaela Decker and scored her 15th goal of the season to put the home team ahead. Less than two minutes later, sustained Ohio State pressure forced an Illinois own goal, quickly making it 2-0. The home team continued to control the game in the second half, and Elle Britt scored again before the final whistle to seal the win. Goalkeeper Peyton Northrup and the back line combined for the team's 10th shutout of the season. With the win, the Buckeyes stand at 14 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss, and 10 wins and 1 draw in the Big Ten for 30 points, with the 10 single-season conference wins a school record. With the outright title, Ohio State locked up the No. 1 seed in the upcoming eight-team Big Ten tournament and a first-round bye. It was a perfect finish to the team's home finale this season, and sent the home fans a championship trophy.
