NXT Awards Held in Atlanta on the Evening of October 25: $49,000 in Scholarships Presented to Seven Students on Stage
On the evening of October 25, the NXT Awards were held at the Coca-Cola Roxy Theatre at The Battery Atlanta, where a total of $49,000 in scholarships was presented, with the seven winning students revealed live on stage. This year's ceremony was larger than in previous years: the theater covers about 53,000 square feet and can hold 3,600 people, and the organizer expected more than 3,000 guests. Hosted by Tia Kemp, the ceremony featured more than 20 award categories and performers including BossMan Dlow, Saucy Santana, Boston Richey, Pretty Rico and Soul Boy; doors opened at 6 p.m. The organizer placed the scholarship reveal between performances and awards to highlight the weight of the scholarships themselves. The NXT Awards are presented by Now That's TV, a platform with more than 800,000 followers and over 200,000 subscribers on social media, and the ceremony was also livestreamed on the platform and on video sites. With two major Atlanta hip-hop weekend events paused this October, the organizer said the NXT Awards gave the city a gathering place for the month. For Atlanta audiences, the ceremony was both a night of music and awards and a direct show of support for local young people.
