Nashville SC Win the 2026 Supporters' Shield: 2-0 Away Win at Montréal Locks Up Home-Field Advantage for the Entire Playoffs
Nashville SC of Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee, beat Montréal 2-0 on the road in a weekend match on October 25 to clinch the 2026 MLS Supporters' Shield ahead of schedule. The Shield is the award given to the team with the best regular-season record, and head coach B.J. Callaghan's side thereby locked up home-field advantage for the duration of the playoffs. Led by Sam Surridge and Hany Mukhtar, Nashville SC topped the standings for most of the season, and the win tied the league record for the fastest Shield clinch in history.
The team still has three regular-season games remaining and can still challenge the single-season points record of 74 set by Inter Miami in 2024, needing 5 points from its final three matches. Montréal fielded a rotated lineup and had just lost the Canadian Championship final in midweek, and could not cope with an in-form Nashville SC. With the U.S. Open Cup and the Canadian Championship both concluded, the league enters its final sprint: first a round of midweek matches, then a dense Halloween-weekend schedule, with the regular season ending on November 7 before the playoffs begin. Nashville SC have locked up a playoff berth in the East, and winning the Shield means home games in every playoff round, an important advantage in the club's pursuit of its first-ever MLS Cup.
