WELLFLEET, Mass. — Wellfleet's 2026 annual fall town meeting was set for 6 p.m. on October 26 at Wellfleet Elementary School, with multiple warrant articles put to a vote. According to the Cape Cod Times' October 26 report, Article 1 asks for an additional $359,500 to supplement the fiscal 2027 budget, of which $150,000 would cover shortfalls caused by higher heating oil and motor oil prices.
Another, 12-page petitioned article asks voters to adopt a general bylaw restricting outdoor lighting to reduce the harmful effects of light pollution and preserve the town's rural character; if approved, the bylaw would take effect on January 1, 2027, and existing nonconforming lighting could remain for up to four years. Article 9 is a nonbinding advisory question asking whether voters prefer the spring annual town meeting to be held at Wellfleet Elementary School or Nauset Regional High School.
The town meeting is a New England tradition of direct resident participation in local governance, with voters deciding budget items and bylaws article by article in person.
