Los Angeles Coastal King Tide Advisory Remains in Effect on October 26: Tides Could Reach 8 Feet, Watch for Water on Low-Lying Beach Roads

A coastal flood advisory issued by the National Weather Service for the coasts of Los Angeles, Ventura, Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo counties remained in effect on Monday, October 26, running from 5 a.m. on Sunday, October 25 through 1 p.m. on Thursday, October 29. Forecasts show that during each morning's high tide, water levels could reach about 8 feet, some 1.0 to 1.5 feet above astronomical predictions, and minor to moderate seawater inundation is likely in low-lying coastal areas, especially around high tide, when beach parking lots, bike paths, and harbor walkways may see standing water, along with possible moderate to significant beach erosion. The California Governor's Office of Emergency Services had earlier reminded the public on social media that from October 25 to 29 the California coast is under a coastal flood advisory, while San Diego and Orange counties are under a higher-level coastal flood warning, with the El Niño phenomenon amplifying the tidal effects. Newport Beach had previously declared a local emergency in response to the unusually high king tides. The weather service also notes that Southern California will very likely see a rainy Halloween weekend, with measurable rainfall expected in most areas; residents should check tide and road closure information before traveling, and households in low-lying coastal areas should take protective measures in advance and avoid roads prone to ponding during high-tide periods.
