Swiss Indoors Basel Opens October 26: Prize Money of Over €2.58 Million, Led by Shelton
On October 26, the 2026 Swiss Indoors Basel opened at the St. Jakobshalle in Basel, Switzerland; the tournament runs until November 1 on indoor hard courts, with total prize money of 2,584,155 euros. US Open runner-up and world No. 4 Ben Shelton is the tournament's top seed, French player Arthur Fils is the second seed, and Novak Djokovic and Stan Wawrinka both enter the main draw on wildcards. The Basel event is Switzerland's most representative tennis tournament; its most successful player in history is home legend Roger Federer, who won the title ten times in his hometown event, and Federer also served as a ball kid at the tournament in his youth, a story fans still relish today. Past champions also include Hall of Famers such as Björn Borg, Ivan Lendl, John McEnroe, Boris Becker, Stefan Edberg and Pete Sampras. This year's champion will receive 500 ranking points and 483,335 euros in prize money, the runner-up 330 points and 260,025 euros, and the semifinalists 200 points and 138,575 euros. Brazilian player João Fonseca is the defending champion but is absent from this year's event through injury and cannot defend his title. For fans, the Basel event falls in the late season, where players' form intertwines with the race for year-end finals places, and every match could affect the final shape of the year-end rankings.
