Virginia Governor Urges Regulators to Reject $67 Billion NextEra-Dominion Energy Merger
A roundup of Virginia political news published on October 25 reported that Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger has filed with the State Corporation Commission urging regulators to reject the proposed $67 billion merger between NextEra Energy and Dominion Energy unless the companies make a set of binding commitments and guarantees. In the filing, the governor said the merger should not be approved without those commitments. The move puts the governor publicly on the opposing side of the giant utility deal, whose outcome will affect electricity rates and service for millions of Virginia customers. Other Virginia developments in the same roundup included Arlington County suing over federal immigration enforcement and FBI-related policies, saying they threaten voter safety and local election administration, and Loudoun County announcing that Amazon has agreed to withdraw its application to build a data center on George Washington University's Technology Campus parcel.
