Nation Ford High School Wins South Carolina 5A Marching Band State Title, Edging Catawba Ridge on Visual Performance
Nation Ford High School in Fort Mill, York County, South Carolina won the state's 5A marching band championship on October 25.
According to an October 25 report by Wisevoter, judges scored the bands on music, visual performance, and overall effect; Catawba Ridge High School earned the highest scores in music and overall effect, but Nation Ford took the overall title by winning the visual performance category.
The victory reflects the shifting competitive landscape of South Carolina marching band since the 2025-26 reclassification; the two schools last competed in the same classification in 2023, and their scores since the reclassification have been very close. Music fans in the Rock Hill area can next look forward to the 4A championship on October 31 and the 6A championship on November 7, with Clover High School, York High School, and Fort Mill High School set to compete.
For Nation Ford's students and directors, the state championship trophy is a reward for a full season of intensive rehearsals, and it showcases the high standard of South Carolina high school marching bands in both music and visual performance.
