By about 6:55 p.m. the fire was under control but not fully out, with crews still working on interior overhaul. Mayor Tiffany O'Donnell said on social media that all workers on site had evacuated safely and no one was hurt; the fire broke out in a product-handling area that is usually lightly staffed, which proved fortunate. The Cedar Rapids plant is described as the world's largest milling facility of its kind, and fire units from Marion, Hiawatha and Linn County also responded. As of October 25, fire officials had not announced a cause for the explosion and fire.
