Inter Miami Fall 2-0 to the New York Red Bulls: Messi Comes Off the Bench as New York Protects Its Playoff Spot
On October 24, the New York Red Bulls beat Inter Miami 2-0 at home to hold on to the Eastern Conference's final playoff spot. New York took the lead in the seventh minute on an own goal by Miami midfielder Carlos Casimiro, and did not double it until the first minute of stoppage time, when substitute Emil Forsberg scored the insurance goal. Forsberg, who entered in the 85th minute, netted his fourth goal of the season, assisted by Cameron Harper and Ronald Donkor. Red Bulls goalkeeper Ethan Horvath made two saves for his fifth clean sheet of the season. For Miami, Lionel Messi did not appear until the 56th minute, replacing Riquelme Fillipi. Messi has 25 goals this season, five more than anyone else, and his 15 assists are tied with Los Angeles FC's Son Heung-min for the league lead. Miami's three-match winning streak ended, though the club stayed third in the East with 55 points.
