Follow-up: Panthers Edge Blackhawks 3–2 as Eller Scores Decisive Goal With 2:23 Remaining
Chicago, Illinois — The Florida Panthers defeated the Chicago Blackhawks 3–2 at the United Center in Chicago on Sunday, October 25, snapping a two-game losing streak. Lars Eller broke the tie with 2 minutes 23 seconds left in the third period, carrying the puck into the offensive zone during a Blackhawks line change and scoring with a wrist shot from near the right faceoff circle past goaltender Spencer Knight. It was Eller's first goal of the season and his first as a member of the Panthers. Sandis Vilmanis and Matthew Tkachuk also scored for Florida. For Chicago, Ryan Greene and Roman Kantserov each scored, but the team went scoreless on seven power-play opportunities and has managed only three goals over its last three games, falling to 3–8 with a third straight loss. Florida improved to 6–4–2; having been outscored 9–1 over the first two games of its four-game road trip, the win helped the Panthers steady themselves. Eller said after the game that he saw the opponent changing lines, realized he might have a rare chance, and took the shot without hesitation — and the puck went in.
