Connecticut Insurance Summit Set for October 29 in Hartford: Regulators and Industry to Tackle AI and Affordability
The Connecticut Insurance Department (CID) and Connecticut Insurance & Financial Services (CT IFS) announced on October 23 that Insuring the Future 2026 will be held on October 29 in Hartford, the state capital, bringing together insurance regulators, industry leaders, technology experts, and policymakers to examine the challenges and opportunities shaping the future of insurance. The program begins at 1 p.m., with a reception to follow at 4:15 p.m.
This year's theme, "Rewriting Risk in an Era of Uncertainty," focuses on how insurers, regulators, and consumers are adapting to technological innovation, evolving risk patterns, and shifting consumer expectations. The program features three expert panels: "AI in Insurance: Risk vs. Reward," on how artificial intelligence is transforming the industry and the challenges it raises for cybersecurity, privacy, governance, and consumer protection; "Affordability and Availability: Building Trust in a Changing Risk Landscape," on the impact of climate and catastrophe risk and on maintaining consumer access to coverage; and "Healthy, Wealthy, and Wise," on how longevity, wellness, retirement planning, and financial security trends are influencing insurance products and consumer expectations.
"Insurance plays a critical role in helping individuals, businesses, and communities navigate uncertainty," said Insurance Commissioner Josh Hershman. "As risks evolve, it is important that regulators and industry leaders engage in thoughtful conversations about innovation, resilience, affordability, and consumer protection." Susan Winkler, vice president and executive director of Connecticut Insurance & Financial Services, said the lineup demonstrates Hartford's status as the "Insurance Capital of the World," noting that the local industry leads in predicting and pricing emerging risks from climate to cybersecurity and artificial intelligence.
