In Utah, Secretary McMahon began at American Preparatory Academy, where she delivered a keynote address to a crowd of roughly 1,200 students, parents and educators, highlighting the Trump Administration's accomplishments to restore excellence in K-12 education. Following her remarks, she toured the school, observing elementary reading, secondary history and character education classes. She then participated in a literacy roundtable before joining American Preparatory Academy students for a field trip at the Utah State Capitol. She concluded her Utah visit at Canyon Heights Adult Learning Center to learn more about their work to strengthen adult education.
In California, Secretary McMahon toured the Providence School, a private Christian school, seeing lower and upper elementary classes for science, art, physical education and music. She then participated in a fireside chat at the Reagan Ranch Center about her efforts to return education to the states.
"It was a pleasure to visit schools and education communities in Utah and California and witness firsthand the incredible work education leaders are doing to prepare the next generation of learners for success," Secretary McMahon said. "From supporting students in the classroom to expanding learning opportunities for people at every stage of life, these visits offered a firsthand look at the innovative approaches helping learners develop the skills and knowledge needed for the future. These experiences underscore the value of empowering local educators and community leaders to develop solutions that best meet the unique needs of their learners."
According to the department, on her Returning Education to the States Tour, Secretary McMahon is traveling to all 50 states to hear directly from teachers, parents, students and community leaders about what is working in their communities and to compile a toolkit of best practices to share with states across the nation.
