Wisconsin 7th District Candidate's Fundraising Tied to Donors With Business Before His Father-in-Law, the Transportation Secretary
As reported on October 24, 2026, the campaign fundraising of Michael Alfonso, the Republican candidate for Wisconsin's 7th Congressional District, drew scrutiny. According to Politico's review of Federal Election Commission data, at least a quarter of Alfonso's individual donors this quarter are connected to companies with business, directly or indirectly, before the Trump administration and the Department of Transportation — while current Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy is Alfonso's father-in-law and the seat's former holder.
The donor list includes the CEOs of passenger rail companies Brightline and Dreamstar, an executive of aviation fuel supplier AEG Fuels, and Deborah Kenny, founder and CEO of the AI rideshare app Ride Pair. Alfonso, 26, married Duffy's daughter, and his campaign is seen as a continuation of the Duffy family's political influence.
The report said that after the latest campaign-finance filing deadline, Alfonso's fundraising structure again showed large numbers of donations from lobbyists and industry executives who could benefit from currying favor with the Transportation Department his father-in-law leads. The finding adds a new controversy to the 7th District race and invites voters to look more closely at the ties between the candidate and federal transportation policy.
