South Dakota Beats North Dakota 26-23 in Overtime, Stays Unbeaten at Home
On October 24, 2026, the University of South Dakota Coyotes staged a comeback classic at the DakotaDome in Vermillion, beating No. 6 North Dakota 26-23 in overtime to stay unbeaten at home this season. Regulation ended 20-20, and the overtime took just two offensive plays: Charles Pierre ran for 11 yards, then quarterback Austin Modrzewski threw a 14-yard pass that Brayden White hauled in through contact for the winning score.
North Dakota had chances to end it in regulation, but a touchdown was wiped out by a holding penalty and a later drive stalled after a false start, forcing the Fighting Hawks to settle for a 38-yard field goal that sent the game to overtime.
South Dakota improved to 7-2 with its second win over a ranked opponent this season, setting up next week's key in-state series game. North Dakota, which led for much of the afternoon, fell just short and took its third loss of the season. DakotaDome fans witnessed the Coyotes' most valuable win of the year, one that strengthens South Dakota's position in the conference race.
