Thunder Beat Nuggets 96-84: Barkley Calls Oklahoma City 'the Hardest Team to Beat'
On the night of Oct. 22, the Oklahoma City Thunder beat the Denver Nuggets 96-84 at home at the Paycom Center. Both teams shot poorly, but the Thunder prevailed with defense: star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander hit only 6 of 17 shots for 17 points and was quiet at the free-throw line, ending his streak of consecutive 20-point games at 141; Jalen Williams led the team with 21 points and five rebounds, and Chet Holmgren added 12 points, 17 rebounds and four blocks. For Denver, Nikola Jokic hit only 5 of 19 shots for 13 points, and Jamal Murray made 2 of 11 for six points with six turnovers. After the game, Hall of Famer Charles Barkley praised the Thunder's defense and depth on air, calling them the league's best defensive team of the past three or four years, relentless and deep, and declaring them the hardest team to beat.
