Retired NYPD Detective Arraigned on Manslaughter in GWB Road-Rage Shooting; Bail Set at $1 Million
NEW YORK — The George Washington Bridge road-rage shooting case went to arraignment on October 22: Victor Romero, the 62-year-old retired NYPD detective, saw his charge reduced from murder to first-degree manslaughter, with bail set at $1 million. According to USA Today, prosecutors can still present the case to a grand jury next week to pursue a murder charge.
The New York Post reported that at the time of the shooting, Romero was driving a Range Rover belonging to his employer — QVT Financial CEO Dan Gold — for whom Romero worked as a driver and private bodyguard. The victim was Koran Irvine, 46, a Con Edison employee, whose family spoke outside court.
Police also recovered two additional handguns from Romero's home; all three firearms have been sent for ballistic comparison. (GSM, from USA Today and the New York Post)
