HAM Crazy Gang Member Sentenced to 168 Months for Felon-in-Possession Shooting in Minneapolis
A Minneapolis gang member has been sentenced in federal court in Minnesota. The U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Minnesota announced that Casey Jemar Davis, 32, was sentenced on October 22, 2026, by Chief U.S. District Judge Eric C. Tostrud to 168 months in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm. Judge Tostrud also imposed 24 months' imprisonment, consecutive to the 168-month sentence, for Davis violating the terms of his federal supervised release from a 2018 firearms conviction; the 168-month term included a 12-month credit from the 180-month statutory maximum for time already served.
According to court documents, on July 28, 2022, at about 1:30 a.m., Davis was in a parking lot outside a sports bar near North 4th Street and North 1st Avenue in downtown Minneapolis after a fight inside the bar. He possessed a .40-caliber Glock equipped with a switch, a machinegun conversion device that enabled fully automatic fire, and a high-capacity magazine. As another man turned and ran, Davis shot him multiple times in the back, legs, and arms, killing him; two innocent bystanders were also hit. Police recovered more than twenty .40-caliber casings fired from Davis's gun.
Davis remained a fugitive for nearly two and a half years. On or about February 20, 2025, police arrested him in St. Paul, where he possessed another firearm also equipped with a switch and an extended magazine. He has multiple prior felony convictions, including a 2018 federal firearms conviction for which he had served 50 months and had been on supervised release for about six months at the time of the July 2022 shooting. In January 2026, he was sentenced in Hennepin County to 294 months after pleading guilty to second-degree unintentional murder and two counts of second-degree assault for the same killing. His co-defendant, Cleveland Longmire, was previously sentenced to 90 months on January 9, 2024. Both men are known members of the HAM Crazy criminal street gang, prosecutors said.
Judge Tostrud described Davis's conduct as brutal, inhumane, and sadistic, and found he represents a great threat to public safety. U.S. Attorney Daniel N. Rosen said the case reflects the strong partnership between federal and local law enforcement. The case was investigated by the ATF and the Minneapolis Police Department and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Benjamin Bejar.
