Bears Beat Patriots 30-24: Tight End Cole Kmet Out for Season With Torn ACL as Montez Sweat Returns to Roster
CHICAGO, Illinois — In Chicago, Cook County, the Bears defeated the New England Patriots 30-24 in Thursday Night Football at Soldier Field on October 22, improving to 5-2. Quarterback Caleb Williams completed 22 of 33 passes for 308 yards and two touchdowns, and wide receiver Luther Burden III caught four passes for 130 yards and a touchdown.
The win came at a heavy cost: tight end Cole Kmet suffered a season-ending torn ACL in the game, and the team removed him from the 53-man roster on Friday evening, October 23.
The team also announced that pass rusher Montez Sweat, whose two-game suspension for violating the NFL's performance-enhancing drug policy has ended, returned to the 53-man roster on Friday evening, filling the spot vacated by Kmet. The Bears face the Seattle Seahawks next week.
