Head-On Crash on SR-79 East of Temecula: White Sedan Burns, Both Directions Closed

At 2:38 p.m. on October 22, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Border Communications Center received a report of a head-on collision on State Route 79 (Temecula Parkway), just east of the Horizon View St intersection, east of Temecula in Riverside County, California. A semi truck hauling CAT lift equipment collided head-on with a white sedan, which was completely destroyed and caught fire.

According to the CHP incident log (Incident 0516), the crash blocked both the eastbound and westbound lanes of SR-79. The CHP issued a SigAlert covering both directions at 2:53 p.m., and the alert was still in effect as of 3:35 p.m., with both directions still closed. The CHP notified the Riverside County Sheriff's Office and the Murrieta Police Department of the crash.

CAL FIRE / Riverside County Fire Department crews responded to the scene, and fire dispatch records show a medical call in the Horizon View St area at 2:42 p.m. Local resident Ryan tipped off GSM and provided photos from the scene: the white sedan is burned down to a shell and still smoking, a fire engine is stopped on the roadway, and multiple Riverside County Sheriff's vehicles with lights on are closing the road.

The CHP log shows an ambulance was en route to the scene. As of publication, officials had not released the number of injuries or the condition of anyone involved, the cause of the crash remains under investigation, and the CHP has not yet announced when SR-79 will reopen.
