Nightingale Foundation Wins $2 Million Federal Grant: Program Will Train 50 Registered Nurses in Alaska to Address the State's Projected 2030 Nursing Shortage
The Nightingale Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, announced on October 20 that it has been awarded a $2 million grant from the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to run the Interconnected Alaska RN Nursing Workforce Development Program in Alaska. The program will be carried out with Nightingale College and the Nightingale Education Group.
According to the foundation, the grant provides about $510,000 per year from September 1, 2026, through August 31, 2030, contingent on annual federal appropriations. The program will support 50 Alaska-based students from disadvantaged backgrounds through registered nurse (RN) training, preparing them to practice in the state's rural and medically underserved communities as Alaska faces a projected nursing shortage by 2030. The funding will also support recruiting and retaining diverse nursing faculty and clinical preceptors.
Executive Director Katy Shoemaker said the grant will help Alaskan students train in and remain in their own communities, expanding the state's nursing workforce pipeline. The foundation is a nonprofit focused on nursing education and workforce development; the award was announced via GlobeNewswire.
