Michkov Scores Twice as Philadelphia Flyers Edge Avalanche 3-2 for Second Straight Win Despite Injuries
Philadelphia is a city in Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania (a consolidated city-county). In Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the Flyers beat the Colorado Avalanche 3-2 at Xfinity Mobile Arena on the night of October 19, earning their second straight win after opening the season with nine winless games (0-6-3). Russian star Matvei Michkov scored both of the Flyers' first two goals: a power-play tally at 7:41 of the first period and a long wrist shot at 12:23 of the second after carrying the puck around the net, bringing his season total to six goals. Trevor Zegras collected three assists, and veteran Noel Acciari scored his first goal as a Flyer in the third period. Goaltender Joseph Woll made 24 saves for his first win in a Flyers uniform; he had spent the previous five seasons with Toronto. The win came shorthanded: five regulars were out injured, forwards Travis Konecny, Owen Tippett and Tyson Foerster and defensemen Cam York and Rasmus Ristolainen, and four rookies were called up from the American Hockey League (AHL), among them 22-year-old Cole Knuble, who made his NHL debut; his father, Mike Knuble, played for the Flyers from 2005 to 2009. Head coach Rick Tocchet said after the game that the team's buy-in was exactly what he wanted to see. (GSM, based on NHL.com's official recap and the Associated Press)
