Buccaneers QB Baker Mayfield to Practice Wednesday After Three Games Out With Dislocated Thumb
Tampa, in Hillsborough County, Florida, received an update on its team's quarterback. Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles told reporters on October 19 that starting quarterback Baker Mayfield is expected to return to practice on Wednesday, October 21, for the first time since his injury, and that whether he plays in Sunday's NFC South game on the road against the Carolina Panthers will depend on how the week goes. "He's supposed to practice Wednesday," Bowles said. "We're gonna take a good look at him there, and we'll kind of evaluate him during the week and see how he does."
Mayfield dislocated his right thumb during the Week 3 loss to the Minnesota Vikings on September 27 and has missed three games. Undrafted rookie Jalon Daniels started in his place, going 1-2. Tampa Bay is 1-5 overall but only 2.5 games behind the division-leading Panthers. NFL insider Tom Pelissero previously reported optimism inside the team that Mayfield would return in Week 7.
