'Upgraded 2': Camila Mendes to Return as Star and Producer for Sequel, per THR
LOS ANGELES — Camila Mendes will return to star in 'Upgraded 2,' a sequel to her 2024 romantic comedy 'Upgraded,' and will also produce the film, The Hollywood Reporter reported exclusively. Production begins this month in Italy, and the sequel will be available globally on Prime Video; Amazon MGM has not announced a release date. Becca Gleason will direct the follow-up, with a script by Luke Roberts and Justin Matthews, who wrote the first film. Gulfstream Pictures and Honor Role — the production company founded by Mendes and Rachel Matthews — are producing, with producers including Mike Karz and Bill Bindley for Gulfstream and Lena Roklin of Luber Roklin Entertainment. The original, directed by Carlson Young and released on Prime Video in February 2024, starred Mendes as Ana, an art auction house intern whose work trip to London takes a turn when she is upgraded to first class and mistaken for her demanding boss; it holds a Certified Fresh 76 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes. Mendes has continued her relationship with Amazon MGM through features including 'Música' and 'Masters of the Universe.'
