Elim Chan Leads LA Phil: Karen Gomyo Gives World Premiere of Samuel Adams Violin Concerto, Oct. 22-25
Conductor Elim Chan leads the Los Angeles Philharmonic this week at Walt Disney Concert Hall, 111 S Grand Avenue, Los Angeles, with three performances: Thursday, Oct. 22 at 8 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 24 at 2 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 25 at 2 p.m.
The program pairs Debussy's Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun and Stravinsky's Petrushka (1947 version) with the world premiere of Samuel Adams' Violin Concerto No. 2, "The Wheel," an LA Phil commission, performed by violinist Karen Gomyo. Adams, the son of LA Phil Creative Chair John Adams, premiered his Chamber Concerto with Gomyo in 2018. The performances are ticketed; prices are as published through official LA Phil channels.
Chan conducted the orchestra the previous week in a Swan Lake and Liszt program (Oct. 16-18). The hall's schedule continues with a 'Seasons of America' program on Oct. 29.
