跟进：奥巴马发文为众议员Omar辩护 称政府不应因政治信念选择性针对个人

华盛顿——前总统奥巴马10月18日在社交平台X发表长文，为正在接受联邦调查的明尼苏达州联邦众议员 Ilhan Omar 辩护，称政府不能仅仅因为一个人的政治信念或言论就选择性地针对他。

奥巴马写道：「美国民主的一项基本原则是，政府不能仅仅因为一个人的政治信念或其言论，就选择性地针对某个人。但这正是特朗普政府正在对明尼苏达州众议员 Ilhan Omar 所做的事。」他还写道，联邦政府的全部力量正压在一名守法的民选官员身上，只因她敢于批评总统。

此前，联邦执法人员搜查了 Omar 在华盛顿的住所，调查涉及其入籍时的移民文件。据 Fox News 报道，调查人员正核查 Omar 或其父亲在她数十年前成为美国公民时，是否在移民文件上作假。奥巴马在文中称，Omar 12岁时随父亲来到美国，其父入籍时她17岁、依法自动取得公民身份；调查人员提出的「她当时实际已满18岁、本应单独申请入籍」的说法没有依据。

Obama Defends Rep. Omar, Says Government Must Not Target People Over Political Beliefs

WASHINGTON — Former President Barack Obama defended Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota in a lengthy post on X on Sunday, saying the government must not selectively target individuals because of their political beliefs or speech, as Omar faces a federal investigation.

"It is a basic principle of American democracy that the government can't selectively target individuals simply because of their political beliefs or what they say," Obama wrote. "But that's exactly what the Trump Administration is doing to Congresswoman Ilhan Omar of Minnesota." He added that "the full weight of the federal government is being brought down on a law-abiding elected official because she has dared to criticize the president."

Federal agents previously searched Omar's Washington home as part of an investigation into her immigration paperwork. Fox News has reported that investigators are examining whether Omar or her father committed fraud on immigration paperwork when she became a U.S. citizen decades ago. Obama wrote that Omar arrived in the United States with her father at age 12 and automatically became a citizen at 17 when her father was naturalized, and he called the investigators' theory that she was actually 18 at the time unsubstantiated.

The Justice Department, responding earlier to a letter from Omar's lawyers seeking the return of seized property, said the search complied with all court orders and called the letter "riddled with false allegations." The investigation is ongoing and no charges have been announced.
