California Files 100th Lawsuit Against Trump Administration: 100th Case Challenges ICE Courthouse Arrests; Bonta Calls It a "Sobering Milestone"
SACRAMENTO — California Attorney General Rob Bonta announced on Oct. 15 that California has filed its 100th lawsuit against the Trump administration. The 100th lawsuit challenges U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) policy and practice of carrying out civil immigration arrests in and around California courthouses, and seeks to block it.
Bonta called the number "a sobering milestone." "For the 100th time since President Trump returned to office, we're going to court," he said. "These 100 lawsuits are a symptom, a reflection of what we're collectively up against. This isn't a fight we chose. But when the President breaks the law and goes after our state, we'll meet him in court, each and every time."
According to the attorney general's office, in just under 21 months since January 20, 2025, California has filed 100 lawsuits, with Bonta leading or co-leading 67 of them, and has separately filed more than 130 amicus briefs in support of other litigation against the administration. Over that period, California has secured 57 orders granting early relief and 26 final orders, and in nine additional cases the administration backed down before the case was heard on the merits. The office cited major wins at the U.S. Supreme Court protecting the right to vote and birthright citizenship, defending California's redistricting efforts, getting the National Guard off California's streets, and blocking the President's tariffs. The office maintains a public federal accountability dashboard (oag.ca.gov/federal-accountability-dashboard)) tracking the litigation.
