Newsom Visits Visalia in the Central Valley to Promote 'Made in California' Label for State Manufacturers
VISALIA, Tulare County — Governor Gavin Newsom on October 14 visited Visalia in the Central Valley, touring Voltage Multipliers, a locally owned advanced manufacturing company operating in California since the 1980s, and presenting it with a license under the state's new Made in California labeling and marketing program. Led by the Governor's Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz) and the California Office of the Small Business Advocate, the program is open to manufacturers whose products are substantially made in California. Approved companies can use the official label and program resources to reach consumers, buyers, retailers, investors and contractors. Applications are now open, with fees waived for eligible applicants for a limited time.
State officials said small and mid-sized manufacturers account for roughly 89 percent of California's manufacturing firms and often lack the marketing infrastructure of larger companies. The label is meant to turn the state's reputation for quality, innovation and sustainability into a market advantage, helping such firms find customers, pursue contracts, attract capital and enter export markets.
California manufacturers produced $391 billion in output in 2025, 9 percent of the state's total GDP, and exported $159 billion in goods in 2024. The sector employs about 1.24 million workers who earn more than $25,000 above the average non-farm wage, and each manufacturing job is estimated to support three more in neighboring communities. Since 2021, the state has invested over $215 million through more than 675 contracts to train over 194,000 manufacturing workers.
The state also recently announced $10.4 million for advanced manufacturing ecosystem and workforce development in the Central San Joaquin Valley, including renovating The Forge at Fresno State to house shared testing facilities and supporting the San Joaquin Valley Manufacturing Alliance. Dee Dee Myers, senior advisor to the Governor and GO-Biz director, said California's economic might and diversity are unmatched and that the future will be Made in California.
