数百名执法人员齐聚Visalia 悼念殉职公路巡警莱尔斯

Hundreds of Officers Gather in Visalia to Honor Fallen CHP Officer Brian Liles
VISALIA — Hundreds of law enforcement officers from across the country gathered at First Assembly of God church in Visalia on October 13 to honor California Highway Patrol motorcycle Officer Brian Liles, who was killed in the line of duty on September 28, the CHP said in a memorial announcement released October 14.
Liles, 44, badge No. 19932, was assigned to the CHP's Visalia Area. At about 5:11 p.m. on September 28, while on patrol on northbound State Route 99 north of State Route 190 near Tipton, south of Avenue 152, his motorcycle collided with a tractor-trailer. He was ejected and then struck by a passing vehicle, and died at the scene.
Liles graduated from the CHP Academy in 2010 and served in San Jose, Hayward and Fresno before transferring to Visalia in 2019. In December 2025 he became one of the Visalia Area's first motorcycle officers, capping more than 16 years of service. He is survived by his wife, two children, his parents and two sisters.
According to the Governor's Office, Liles is the first CHP officer to die in the line of duty since 2020. Governor Gavin Newsom issued a statement of condolence, and flags at the State Capitol and Capitol Annex were flown at half-staff. On September 30, the CHP held a bell ceremony at its academy in West Sacramento, where Commissioner Sean Duryee and Chief Mike Lehman spoke.
At the October 13 service, Liles's colleague Johnny Woodrow delivered remarks, and family members read a letter from his widow. The CHP 11-99 Foundation has provided $50,000 in assistance to Liles's widow.
