R.J. Mitte, Who Played Walter White's Son on 'Breaking Bad,' Dies at 34
Actor and disability rights advocate R.J. Mitte, who played Walter White Jr. on AMC's "Breaking Bad," died Monday in Brownsville, Texas, his representatives announced. He was 34.
Mitte appeared as Walter "Flynn" White Jr., the son of Bryan Cranston's Walter White, in 56 episodes across all five seasons of the acclaimed drama (2008–2013). Diagnosed with cerebral palsy at age 3, he brought his own lived experience to the role and became one of television's landmark examples of authentic disability representation.
No cause of death was revealed by his representatives. TMZ, citing a county official, reported that he died by suicide; that account has not been officially confirmed and the death remains under investigation.
"It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of beloved actor, philanthropist and passionate disability rights advocate RJ Mitte," his representatives said, adding that he "brought authenticity to the role and built a platform on disability awareness and inclusion."
Born August 21, 1992, and raised in Jackson, Mississippi, Mitte came to Hollywood in 2006 and made an uncredited appearance on "Hannah Montana" in 2007 before landing his breakthrough role. He served as an ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children's and as president of The Mitte Foundation, working to challenge stereotypes and promote greater representation for people with disabilities on and off screen. Funeral and memorial arrangements have not been announced.
