GSM News

2,140 Baby Bath Seats Sold on Amazon Recalled: CPSC Says Unstable Seats Can Tip, Posing Drowning Risk

WASHINGTON, Oct. 6 — About 2,140 ONTHEWEI-branded baby bath seats have been recalled, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. The CPSC said the seats violate the mandatory standard for infant bath seats because they are unstable and can tip over while in use, posing a risk of serious injury or death to children from drowning. As of the notice, the manufacturer was unaware of any injuries.

The seats were sold on Amazon in April 2026 for between $40 and $50, in gray, pink, blue and mist green, with detachable restraint arms and suction cups on the underside. The model number 'MY002' and manufacture date '2026/1/10' are printed on a label on the back, which consumers can use to identify affected units. The importer is a trading company based in Hubei, China.

Consumers should stop using the seats immediately and contact ONTHEWEI for a full refund: write 'RECALLED' in permanent marker on the front, disassemble the seat by removing the backrest and arm restraints, cut the three suction cups on the underside, and send a photo of the destroyed seat to the company before disposing of it. The New York Post repeated the warning on Oct. 12. Regulators also reiterate that bath seats are not safety devices and a caregiver's arm should always remain within reach during infant baths.

A buying note: infant bath seats are bathing aids, and no standard treats them as anti-drowning safety devices. Parents should prefer products that state compliance with the mandatory standard and recognized certifications such as ASTM on the packaging, and check suction and structural stability before first use. For second-hand seats, always run the model number through the CPSC database first.
