Austin and UT Near Deal to Transfer Lions Municipal Golf Course to City; Council Vote Possible November 19
Austin is a city in Travis County, Texas. Austin media reported on October 14 that the City of Austin and the University of Texas are nearing an agreement that would transfer the historic Lions Municipal Golf Course in west Austin to city ownership. The City Council could consider an amendment to the 1989 Brackenridge Development Agreement on November 19.
The city said the proposed agreement could also address an update to UT's lease at the former Mueller airport site, exchanges of city rights-of-way, a development plan to be negotiated by both parties, and the possible creation of a Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone.
If the council acts in November, city staff would develop the regulating plan and TIRZ proposal in the following months and return to the council in spring 2027, according to the city. UT said the transfer is not final and its Board of Regents would still need to consider next steps.
