Weekend Preview: Original Horror 'Other Mommy' Eyes No. 1 as 'The Social Reckoning' Cools
Two new releases hit North American theaters this weekend. Universal/Blumhouse's original horror title Other Mommy, starring Oscar winner Jessica Chastain, is tracking for a ~$20M opening and the No. 1 spot, while Sony's The Social Reckoning — Aaron Sorkin's follow-up to The Social Network — is expected to open near $7M, less than half its predecessor. In a sequel-heavy fall, original horror is proving the value bet for theaters. (Compiled by GSM from published reports.)
